Adventure Training...
|
| |
Adventure Training is a major element in the Squadron training plan. Activities range from Night Exercises at
local areas to full weekends away at official military training areas. In addition to this training, during the
summer period qualified cadets have the opportunity to learn motor boat handling on the River Thames.
Fieldcraft is used as a tool by which leadership and teamwork can be developed and tested under difficult conditions.
Training to a basic standard is provided, mainly by Cadet NCOs under supervision of Squadron Staff. However it is the
individual's ability to deal with demanding circumstances and still operate as a member of the team which may make the
difference between success or failure.
That said it's all good fun too!
More Adventure Training opportunities exist with both Thames Valley Wing and the ATC as a whole. Thames Valley's
major events of the year are two seperate weeks away at the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres (NACATC)
in the Lake District and Snowdonia.
Activities at these centres range from Hill Walking, through Canoeing and Abseiling, to Sailing and Rock Climbing, all
based at one of the ATC's two dedicated Adventure Training Centres.
The ATC also runs national level courses specialising in some more demanding Adventure Training such as Nordic Skiing and
Tall Ship sailing. Information on these can be found on the Squadron noticeboard.
Parental Consent Forms
An Adventure Training Consent Form and Certificate of Health is required for each event. For local area exercises,
of which several may take place in any month, a single consent form may be used provided each of the event dates
are stated in the relevant box and all events are in a three consecutive month period. The requirement for these forms lies with ATC
Policy and not the Squadron. A copy of the form in MS Word format can be found on the Resources
page. Please note that original signatures, i.e. not scanned or photocopied, are required.
