This year the 2499 spent a week at RAF Marham, home to the Tornado and Canberra. We were joined by Bracknell, Maidenhead, Britwell
and Windsor squadrons. Everyone took part in a vast range of activities which included flying, shooting and various exercises.
Saturday
On arrival at Marham we set up home in our tented accommodation shortly before going off for some much needed lunch in the mess-
burgers and chips! yum.
After lunch we were put into our different flights and played a few team games so we could get to know the
others. After we felt well acquainted we had a few games of rounders and football.
In the evening we had a choice of a movie in the
bunker or hanging around the campsite playing cards and watching the stars.
Sunday
On Sunday morning there was a choice of either sports or church.
That afternoon we went to another nearby RAF station to do
some swimming, and play some games in the pool.
Monday
By Monday the station was back in action. In the morning we paid a visit to the Fire Section and played with all the bits
and bobs on the fire engines.
In the afternoon everyone got to go and see (and sit in) the Tornados. We also had another section
visit to the Intelligence Wing.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning was shooting. Everyone got to fire 10 rounds on the 25m range with No8 target rifles, with the scores going
towards the inter-flight competition.
We were then transported over to the RAF Regiment for the afternoon, where we completed the
rather challenging assault course in our sections, trying to get the best time possible.
Later that evening a Night Exercise was
organised for us in nearby woodland.
Wednesday
On Wednesday we took a trip over to nearby RAF Wyton where we were scheduled to go flying. Most of the cadets got up,
but due to a bit of bad luck with the weather not everyone got the chance. However those who managed to fly had some fun doing
sightseeing, aerobatics and other things. When not flying we got to participate in some sports.
Wednesday evening was spent a at the bunker playing games and watching a movie.
Thursday
On Thursday morning everyone got to go and visit 1 PRU and their Canberra’s as well as various engineering sections.
That afternoon cadets who were old enough did work experience of their choice, which included the Fire Section, Air Traffic Control and Intelligence
Wing. Those who didn’t do the work experience visited the “Bomb Dump” and Air Traffic Control.
In the evening we went down to the on-site bowling alley and played a few games.
Friday
Due to a stand down at RAF Marham, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go and visit RAF Lakenheath, an US Air Force air base nearby.
Firstly we saw there fire department (complete with loads of barcaloungers, and very big squirty things!). We had a look
at all of their specialized equipment for explosives before viewing their range of machine-guns and rifles. The Security Force then
put on a display using their attack dog and our CWO. Honestly, he volunteered. We then spent time looking over an F-15E. After an
American-style lunch and went to play some games in their amusement centre.
Friday evening was the *DISCO* where everyone
had loads of fun doing the conga!!
Saturday
In the morning we had our awards ceremony, which included best cadet, most improved cadet and winning flight, which was
of course B flight. They all received a turbine blade trophy, kindy made by the ACLO Team and a certificate.
Then awards
derived by some of the NCO team were presented. These included “most comically challenged”, “the titanic award (for the flooding
tent)” and other various unmentionable ones.
After the ceremony we packed up and left home, all very sad to be leaving.
