Bob the Penguin...

You may be wondering why a penguin, a flightless bird, has pride of place on an Air Training Corps website.
I mean it's obvious isn't it – Air Cadets fly, penguins don't!
Well Bob (our penguin) represents our non-flying activities, such as fieldcraft, leadership training, expeditions,
foot drill and so on.
Because the DPM uniform is usually worn on these activities, the Squadron has a patch to be worn on the right shoulder
to help 2499 cadets stand out from the rest of the rabble. These are available for £4.60 from the SWO.
Other clothing depicting both the ATC Crest and Bob are available at various times throughout the year at cost prices.

You may also be curious as to why he's called Bob. Well every penguin needs a name...
