Cadets attending gliding slots at 612 VGS will progress through the three Glider Induction Courses (GIC) developing their basic flying skills on the Vigilant self launching glider. The GICs concentrate on the primary controls; rudder, elevators and ailerons, backing up the theory training conducted on the unit.
Cadets over the age of 16 who have gained at least their Leading Cadet classification can apply for a Gliding Scholarship (GS). This training course follows on from the GICs and trains cadets to solo standard. Most cadets do solo at this point.
You can start the application process once you reach 15 years and nine months old
After passing GS and soloing a cadet may be selected by the VGS for Advanced Glider Training (AGT) which leads to the award of the coverted gold wings.
