33 Squadron Visit - 25th October 2011

Highs and more highs with the Puma Force...

The day started with a briefing about 33 Squadron, the Puma and how versatile the aircraft is, including what we can expect from the upgrade next year. We then moved on to the hanger and had a very good poke around a Puma undergoing a service.  There the cadets were put in the cockpit and asked Flt Lt Bell some difficult questions, such as “Do you have to account for magnetic variation from the compass, when the window wipers are on?"

Shortly after lunch the cadets that could fly had an unbelievable trip in a Puma over London, and saw all the attractions London has to offer. This flight also included low level flying and some gut renching maneuvers.  Meanwhile the other group went to the fire section, and emptied the Thames with a water cannon.  They also tried on some equipment used by the fire section which made them look like someone out of a sci-fi move, before seeing some amazing technology on the Thames Valley Police helicopter.

All of the cadets were thrilled with the visit to 33 Squadron and RAF Benson and will be remembering it for years to come.
