The "Perfect 10" is an initative from HQ Thames Valley Wing intended to ensure that cadets from all 27 Squadrons in the Wing are offered the same opportunities during their time in the ATC.

Put simply

Very simply, there are ten activities which form the core of any Air Cadet's time in the ATC.  These are:

• Aviation Studies BTEC - The academic training syllabus, including project work.

• Camps - Week long residential camps on RAF Stations.

• Flying & Gliding - Air Experience Flying in the Tutor and Gliding trainign in the Vigilant.

• Adventure Training - Walking, hiking, climbing, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits.

• D of E - The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.

• Public Services BTEC - An award which can be gained from the age of 16 onwards.  A good follow on to the Aviation Studies BTEC.

• Weapons Qualifications - Shooting with small and full bore rifles at ranges between 15 and 500 meters. 

• First Aid - Essential for those taking part in many activities.  Skills that you hope to never need, but are glad to know if you do.

• Leadership - Working and leading in teams on the Wings's Leadership Camps.

• Sports - Not just winning, but taking part in a variety of sports.

The Perfect 10 

To make the Perfect 10 easy to see the following diagram is used to illustrate it.  You can map out your cadet career across the top using the ages shown.

For example...

So by the time you turn 15 and assuming you joined the ATC at 13, you should have:

• Completed First Class and Leading Classifications

• Been to Camp

• Flown twice in a Tutor and twice in a Vigilant

• Been on an Adventure Training event in the local area

• Gained your DofE Bronze Award

• Trained on and live fired the No8 .22 rifle and possibly .22 target rifles

• Been through the Heartstart Emergency Life Support training

• Attended Tactical Leadership Camp No1

• Represented your Squadron in one of the core sports

And you'll be looking forward to the next round of challenges.

In Summary 

There are many other activities in the ATC that Perfect 10 doesn't cover such as Radio & Comms, Road Marching, Ceremonial and Parachuting.  However there's nothing stopping you doing these in addition to the Perfect 10.

Perfect 10 gives every cadet the opportunity to have a full and rounded ATC life rather than bashing away on one or two areas of the ATCs syllabus.
