Flt Lt LinesFlight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Martin Lines RAF VRT - Officer Commanding  

Flt Lt Martin Lines joined 2509 (Chipping Sodbury) Squadron as a cadet in 1974. He progressed through the ranks to the heady height of Cadet Sergeant and was a founding cadet of 2509 Detached Flight in Frampton Cotterell (now 37 Squadron).

Moving to Reading he joined 2499 Wokingham Squadron in 1984 as a Civilian Instructor. As a member of the Squadron staff he ran the Radio Room and Adventure Training. In 1992 he became a commissioned officer with the Squadron and took on the roles of Squadron Adjutant and Training Officer. Martin eventually took command of the Squadron in 1999.

Martin qualified as an Air Traffic Engineer in 1980 and was posted to Heathrow Airport. Moving through various jobs in the computer communications industry Martin now runs his own consultancy company. In his spare time he enjoys off roading with his son James.


Fg Off QuilterFlying Officer (Fg Off) Carole Quilter RAF VRT - Squadron Adjutant 

Fg Off Carole Quilter first joined the ATC as a CI on 1116 (Woodley) Squadron. After a period on 1116 (Henley) DF, Carole moved to 2499 and was commissioned in July 2006.

Carole is currently the Adjutant, responsible for the day to day administration of the Sqn as well as instructing in first aid. Carole also organises visits out to various places of interest to the cadets as well as guest speakers for the training programme.

WO LambertWarrant Officer (WO) Jonathan Lambert ATC - Squadron Warrant Officer

WO Jon Lambert joined 2499 Squadron as a cadet in 1988 and continued through until 1996, reaching the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, evidence of the odd sense of humour held by the incumbent OC. During this time he was a member of the Squadron full and small bore shooting teams, gaining a Wing Representative Award for small bore target rifle and organised many Adventure Training weekends. Rumour has it that there may have been an certain amount of foot drill involved as well.

Jon rejoined the Squadron in 1998 and was appointed as an WO in November 2000, completing the Drill Instructor Course in 2002. He is currently the Squadron Warrant Officer, responsible for drill, discipline and supply as well as the Training Officer. He was appointed the Wing Warrant Officer for Thames Valley Wing in July 2006, evidence of the odd sense of humour held by the Wg Cdr.

Jon is an Air Traffic Assistant at the London Area Control Centre, Swanwick. In his spare time he enjoys photography, rock climbing and hill walking in a smart, uniform manner. 



Sgt BillersSergeant (Sgt) Martyn Billers ATC - SNCO ic Discipline

Sgt Martyn Billers "time expired" as a Cadet Warrant Officer in August 2007 and moved straight into post as a Sergeant. Martyn is a Community Sports Leader, Marksmanship Coach and Weapon Instructor; qualifications he gained as an Instructor Cadet.   To these Martyn has added a Drill Instructor qualification.

In addition to the tradition sergeant roles of drill, dress and discipline, Martyn manages the sports programme, oversees marksmanship training and conduct training and development with the Cadet NCOs.

Martyn is a PGA Golf Professional and works at a local golf club. In his spare time Martyn enjoys playing golf, exercising at the gym, walking, and nights out.

Sgt Daniel Cooper joined 2499 (Wokingham) Squadron in 2004 as a cadet, moving through the ranks to Cadet Warrant Officer. Dan attended numerous camps and weekends away during his time as a cadet, achieving a bronze DofE award and first aid qualifications in the process. Reaching his 20th birthday Dan stayed at the squadron as a Civilian Instructor for a short time before his appointment to Adult Sergeant and a quick return to uniform.

 

In addition to the tradition sergeant roles of drill, dress and discipline, Dan is responsible for the Junior and First Class Cadet training on the squadron. 

 

In his spare time Dan enjoys exercising at the gym, running and going out with friends.

Mr  Barry Hargreaves - Civilian Instructor (CI) - Ground Training Instructor

Miss HoneymanMrs Kathleen Lambert - Civilian Instructor (CI) - D of E Officer

Although Mrs Kathleen Lambert was not a cadet, she was active with sports such as Tennis, Netball and Hockey, representing her school on many occasions. She also completed her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award before leaving school for University to study a BSc in Human Biology and Waste Management. 


Kath joined the Squadron as a Civilian Instructor in June of 1999 and is currently the Squadron Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DEAS) Officer, responsible for providing advice and support for cadets undertaking all levels of the scheme as well as instructing several subjects for First Class and Leading Cadet Classification and is a qualified First Aider and First Aid Instructor.

Kath is a Sonographer specialising in maternity ultrasound with a local NHS Hospitial Trust. In her spare time she enjoys photography, exercising at the gym and walking. 



Mr LastMr Jonathan Last - Civilian Instructor (CI) - Engineering Instructor

 Mr Jonathan Last was a cadet with Wokingham squadron from 1999 to 2004 achieving CWO and staff cadet status by the end of his career. He attended 3 annual camps, over 10 weekend exercises and achieved a Bronze D of E Award.


 Jon instructs First Class, Leading and Staff Part Two cadets as well as overseeing the Basic Fieldcraft Training.


 Jon is employed as an aviation engineer




Captain Pearce-CarrMr Tom Pearce-Carr - Civilian Instructor (CI) - Chief Aviation Instructor 

Mr Tom Pearce-Carr was a CCF cadet from 1956 to 1961 reaching the rank of Sergeant. He attended three Annual Camps and flew in Varsities, Lincolns Shackletons and Hunters. In 1961 he was awarded an RAF Flying Scholarship, flying DHC1 Chipmunks at Exeter.

 Following the Flying Scholarship he spent two years as a Cadet at the College of Air Training at Hamble flying Chipmunk and Piper Apache aircraft. He joined British European Airways in 1965 as Second officer Flying Vickers Vanguards, converted to BAC 1-11 in 1971 and became a Captain with British Airways in 1975. He then converted to the Boeing 747 in 1982, retired from BA in 1996 and became Chief Pilot of Air Foyle Passenger Airlines flying Boeing 737's in UK, Belgium and Norway. Looking for a change to short-haul, Tom then flew 737's for Easyjet from Luton and Gatwick.

Tom joined 2499 Squadron as a Civilian Instructor in 2001 specialising in teaching Pilot Navigation and also teaches boat handling skills during the summer on the River Thames.  He is also the Squadron Health and Safety Officer.


After a very full career, Tom finally retired from flying in 2008 and now finds himself busier than ever! He likes to spend his spare time on his power boat on the River Thames.
