Night Exercises...

The Squadron holds evening exercises at local areas on a regular basis, usually once a month. As adventure training events these exercises are governed by the same rules which control the longer weekend exercises, DEAS expeditions and other such activities.

The details here are intended to assist you in preparation for these events.

Administration
Approval for night exercises is submitted for a period of three months at a time. Therefore you will need to submit a consent form for all the dates over the three month period. One form can be used, provided it lists the dates of the events.

The form to be used is the "Adventure Training Consent Form" available for download on the Resources page.

Timings are usually the same as standard Parade Nights.

Equipment
The usual kit list for night exercises is available for download on the Resources page. It is also worth consulting the NCO ic Event and/or your section commander in case there is any other equipment you needs to take or be issued with. Also check the weather forecast. Waterproofs left at home are of little use when the rain arrives early. The weather doesn't tend to watch the forecasts on TV and can arrive unexpectedly.

Night Ex's are also a good time to try out your layering system for longer events. Again, warm kit left at home will not keep you warm during a 60 minutes Oberservation Post exercise.

Activities
Activities on night exercises include:

  General Fieldcraft        Communciations
Basic Navigation        Micro & Night Nav
  Shelter Building        Search & Rescue
  Campcraft        First Aid Scenarios

Locations
For security reasons the locations of events are not given on this website. Full details of locations will be given at the SHQ.

There is not usually adequate parking at the exercise locations, so parents are asked to car pool as much as possible, to reduce the impact on the area.

Questions
Questions can be directed to the NCO ic Event at the unit (see the noticeboard) or to AWO Lambert.
